Community Dinner Program for the Unhoused and Food-Insecure

Ahimsa Club students organize a community dinner service at LWUMC, taking the lead in planning, preparing, and serving a warm meal for local families in need. The students create a sign-up sheet and sample menus designed with both nutrition and simplicity in mind. Sevaks in the Mission participate by choosing an item from the menu, preparing it at home, bringing it to the church, and helping serve dinner to the community.

During the planning process, one student reflected on a powerful verse from the Chandogya Upanishad: “annamayaṁ hi manaḥ” — Our mind is formed from the essence of the food we eat. Inspired by this teaching, the students shared that just as food nourishes the mind, our actions can nourish our community. Through the meals we prepare and serve, we can uplift others and make a meaningful difference.

Safe Parking Donation Drive

We are grateful to support the Safe Parking Initiative organized by Lake Washington United Methodist Church, a program that offers a secure and compassionate place for individuals and families living in their vehicles.

Ahimsa club is collecting items needed for them from the wish list created by LWUMC. Students took the initiative to create flyers to inspire everyone and keep this movement going. Taking the time to reflect on the task we are doing, turns it into seva.

Clothing Exchange

Join us for our Clothing Exchange — a heartfelt initiative where gently used, good-quality clothing finds a new home! All items have been thoughtfully donated by members of Chinmaya Mission Seattle, and everyone is welcome to browse, pick up what they need, and enjoy the spirit of sharing.

It’s a simple way to give, receive, and support one another. Come discover great pieces, reduce waste, and be part of a kinder, more sustainable community!

Kitchen Warrior Seva

At Chinmaya Mission Seattle, caring for the environment is woven into our spiritual practice. As part of our commitment to environmental stewardship, we use only reusable tableware and cutlery to serve Prasad during our weekly Sunday sessions and all Special Events. After every gathering, the tableware is washed, dried, and stored with love and care.
To make this sustainable effort a shared joy, each Bala Vihar class—students, teachers, and parents—is assigned a month to serve as “Kitchen Warriors.” This hands-on service naturally involves our entire congregation and transforms a simple task into a lively, laughter-filled time of singing, teamwork, and togetherness. Through this collective effort, we not only reduce waste but also strengthen our bonds as a community rooted in service.

AHA Walkathon

The Heart & Stroke Walk is a fun, family-friendly event that brings our community together to get active, raise life-saving funds, and support the mission of the American Heart Association. The event celebrates heart health, honor survivors, and remember loved ones affected by heart disease and stroke. Through fundraising and community engagement, the Heart & Stroke Walk aims to enhance CPR training accessibility, bolster bystander preparedness, increase funding for vital research, and ultimately, save lives.

On October 11th, 2025, Ahimsa club sevaks signed up and participated for this event. On that cold Saturday morning, we walked 3 miles along with members of the community and other organizations. This was a fun team building exercise for all of us.
